Field Trips...
Anyone with kids have field trips that just dread? My hand may be the highest one in the air! At my kids school you are their ride and their chaperone. This is fine because I like to know where my kids are and what they are doing. I try to go to every trip that I can afford. As a kid, I don't remember very many field trips, but the ones I did go on I remember very clearly and they were so much fun! So I try to do as much as I can to make memories with the kiddos.
The LA County Fair is one of those dreaded field trips. It is always a billion degrees. Smells like dirty animals and is a miserable day. So here comes the said field trip. But I actually enjoyed myself!!! What? I know! The high was like 73 degrees. It was cloudy all day and even misted us with rain a few times. It was still smelly, but at least it wasn't that hot nasty smelly feeling. The kids were pretty well behaved. But as always tons of walking. But the walking wasn't so bad in decent weather!
If every LA County Fair field trip were like yesterday, I would actually like going. Without everyone being moody because it was hot, everyone had a good time. We saw a bug show complete with chocolate covered cock roaches. (insert green throwing up face here) No I did not try one and neither did any of my kids. The lady showed us (and was holding and touching) a giant hissing cock roach. I was so grossed out I almost passed out haha! We watched a blacksmith, saw honey bees, and found the queen bee, got chocolate milk, went to pet goats, sheep and even a cow. Played Legos and built a city. Had a picnic lunch that consisted of salad and potato chips for me :)
The kids favorite part is always the rides. I refuse to buy tickets for rides, but we use their read to ride program. The kids can choose to write 3 or 6 book reports and receive that many ride credits. Well obviously I make them do the 6 because they wouldn't be satisfied after only 3 knowing they could have had 6. Normally I would let the older 3 go off and ride "big" rides and my youngest and my besties youngest go on smaller rides. Well this year the 2 littles wanted to go check out the "big boy" rides. They went on all crazy spinning, go upside down type rides. Why? Why do they have to grow up? All I know if that I was more scared than they were. And I totally thought that after the first one they would want to go back in the smaller ride section. But that did not happen.
So all in all it was a good day! happy moments, memories made and things accomplished for my little guy, who obviously isn't so little!
