Happy Harvest {Halloween}
Today is a day that we "celebrate" with mixed emotions. I do not really like the holiday, but we do celebrate it with the kids. Although we do not celebrate it in the traditional sense. We do not do trick or treating. We did not trick or treat when I was a kid either. Yes it has to do with our religious beliefs. I'll explain more below.
So, I feel like this day is a kind of dark day. The black, the skulls, the bones and skeletons, just the eerie feeling all the way around. When I was little my parents would take us to the mall and trick or treat in stores. It was so neat and we looked forward to it every year. Then we would go very good family friends homes and they would give us candy. Usually a whole bag. That was usually what it was when I was a kid.
When I was about 19 and pregnant with my first child, our church started doing a Harvest Fest. We set up game booths, food booths, dunk tank, mechanical bull, petting zoo and much more. This has now been our tradition. We help with the booths and wherever we are needed. My kids have loved it and now are helping out too. We also go to good friends or neighbors homes with our kids. It is so special and exciting to do this with my kids now!
